Which data does the app process?

Speech output
Reading aloud is handled by your device's speech synthesis. No texts or voice data are transmitted to us. If you have selected an online voice in your operating system, the privacy terms of that provider (e.g. Microsoft, Google, Apple) apply to it.
No advertising, no tracking
The app and this website contain no advertising, no analytics tools, no tracking pixels and no third-party embeds. Program components and the interface font are served by us. There is a single exception, which concerns the web version and is described below.
Fonts in the web version
Temia is available in 100 languages. The bundled font covers Latin, Cyrillic and
Greek characters. If you choose a language written in another script – such as
Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, an Indic script, Thai, Burmese, Georgian,
Armenian, Amharic or Sinhala – the web version loads the matching font from Google
(fonts.gstatic.com). Your IP address is transmitted to Google in the
process and Google's privacy terms apply. We transmit no further data and make no
connection to your person.
This happens only in the web version and only for those languages. The Android and iOS apps use the fonts of the operating system and load nothing. To avoid it, use the installed app or a language written in Latin, Cyrillic or Greek script.
Cookies
We set no cookies for analytics or advertising. The app only stores technically necessary data in your browser's local storage so that your cards and settings are still there next time.
Optional cloud synchronisation
Only if you explicitly create an account are your email address and profile backups (vocabulary, settings, phrases – without your own photos) transmitted encrypted and stored at our processor. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). Only your account has access. You can have the data deleted at any time.
Children
The app is designed for children but does not itself collect personal data from children. Account creation and synchronisation are features for parents, guardians and caregivers.
Permissions of the mobile apps
- Camera and photos – solely to put your own images on cards. The images stay on the device.
- Internet – only for the optional synchronisation and for opening the donation link.
Your rights
You have the right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. As we store no data from you without an account, in practice this only concerns users of the cloud synchronisation.
Backing up and deleting your data
You can export your profile as a file at any time via the settings. To delete everything, uninstall the app or clear the website data in your browser – all cards are then irretrievably gone.
